I was checking out Madonna's live performances of her early songs. I am very familiar with many of her videos, songs since I was a teenager in 1980s. I love all her 80s songs, videos. I can't say that about that any other song artist.
Oct 19, 2018 Madonna Live: The Virgin Tour is the second video album and the first live release. It was released by Warner Music Video and Sire Records. Live The Virgin Tour DVD. Filmed in her hometown Detroit, Michigan. This concert introduces Madonna as the Material Girl. The concert opens with the energy-filled 'Dress You Up', and follows with the best hits from the Madonna and Like A Virgin albums, as well as songs featured in movies like Desperately Seeking Susan ('Into The Groove').
I found many youtube videos of her 1985 Virgin Tour Live performances. There is even a youtube video of her full Dallas concert that the uploader videotaped.
I really enjoyed watching and listening to Madonna sing live. I enjoy her live singing more than watching music videos and listening to studio songs. She is quite the performer. She can both sing and dance well.
What impresses me most is her versatility in her singing style. I have read about her being criticized about the Minnie Mouse on helium stuff. Much of her songs wasn't like that at all. I can hear a grown woman singing these songs. This is definitely evident in her rock songs, Gambler, Burning Up, and Over and Over. Some of her singing has a R&B style. I hear it in Everybody, Borderline, Lucky Star, Holiday, Crazy For You, Dress You Up, and even Into The Groove. Her singing voice sounds strong and deep. Crazy For You gets me tearful. She sings it beautifully.
Her live Like A Virgin sounds more mature than the studio version, and she put a tiny bit of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. It's a cool version! Her live Material Girl sounds childish to the point that I am very sure that it was meant to be a silly presentation. Considering how mature she can sing, it's evident that she is just kidding around. There is some womanly sounding in some of her singing in that song. In Who's That Girl Tour, she actually sang that song while dressed up as a nerdy girl. I read that she hated being referred to as The Material Girl even though she's known for that. It was always shown at the end, that she wasn't a Material Girl. In the concert, she says at the end that she is not a Material Girl and that doesn't need money and that she needs love.
I really enjoy her live Virgin Tour live performances that I have been watching them over and over again.
Some of her singing like acting. Her performances in videos are like acting. She does include theater in her concerts.
Madonna spoke on a panel of musicians at a conference in 1984 about the importance of staying up with the times, specifically with the then new art form of music videos.
In response, John Oates of Hall & Oates said he resented the fact that an aspiring musician/songwriter had to worry about being an actor now.
Madonna responded: “When you’re on stage, you’re acting. That’s a performance. So what’s the difference?”
Her speaking voice is nice, attractive, womanly, sultry. When she talks in interviews, she is very articulate and shows her great intelligence. I read that her IQ is 140.
Her speaking voice is very different from her singing voices in her early songs.
